Pack a sweater and an umbrella. The weather in Saint Petersburg is famous for its changeability - warm and sunny morning can easily end in a cold and rainy evening. There is nothing unusual for atmospheric pressure and wind direction and velocity to change drastically during a single day. Different regions of the city can have a divergence in temperature of up to 8-10°C.

Put on a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Otherwise constant walking during the sightseeing can wear you down.

Surface transportation - buses, trolleys, and trams - works from 5:30 a.m till 12:30 p.m. Fares are 10 rubles for a ticket and do not depend upon distance. Tickets are valid for a single journey only and should be bought from the conductor. While selling tickets the conductor walks back and forth through the cabin, so he might be not available immediately after you entered the transport.

Subway works from 5:45 a.m till 12 p.m. Fares do not depend upon root or distance. The cost of ride is 10 roubles payable by tokens or plastic cards. Tokens and cards themselfs can be bought at token booths at each station.

There is special 2-digit telephone numbers system in Saint Petersburg for use in emergency situations and 3-digit system for various information services. These numbers are round-the-clock and free of charge.

There are a lot of payfones around the city, many of which are located at subway stations, business and trade centers, hotels and central streets.
